I was told that I have 3 years to file my taxes since my tax person died- is this true?

If I wait will there be an interest/penalty?

What are basically the options?

Well you have 3 years to file if you are getting a refund.  If you have a tax due there is no limit.  But interest and late filing penalty will accumulate on a tax due.  What year do you need to file?

You can do 2023 Online until Oct 15 or buy the Desktop CD/Download program. For prior years you have to buy the Desktop program.

You can buy the last 3 years of Turbo Tax here,

    https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/

You will need a full Windows or Mac to install it on.

How to prepare a prior year return

No, it's not true. The death of your tax preparer does not change any of the deadlines for filing your tax return or paying any tax that you owe.

If you wait, the penalties and interest will be the same as if your tax preparer did not die.

Your options are to find another tax preparer, or prepare and file your tax return yourself.
