Question

Royalty income is disappearing.

I am entering my royalty payments from Amazon under the self-employed schedule C section. when I enter all the info and submit, turbotax takes me back to the income totals page and shows $0 under the self-employed income. Why is this happening? Granted we are only talking about $43.

When I went back in to make sure it was entered correctly, the form was blank. When I click into it, I'm told I have not entered any income for this work yet. I put it all back in and the same thing happened.

What is happening and how do I fix it? Is it because it's not over a certain amount?

I want to make sure it's getting reported since I did not pay any taxes on this income.

No, it isn't because it is a small amount. Royalty income belongs on Schedule E, not Schedule C.

To enter your royalty income in TurboTax:

  1. Select Federal from the left side menu.
  2. Select Wages & Income.
  3. Scroll down and look for Rental Properties and Royalties (Sch E).
  4. Click Review on the right.
  5. Click Edit to the right of your 1099-MISC entry, or answer Yes, if you haven't entered anything yet.
  6. Select Royalty, click Continue.
  7. Fill in any missing information and click Continue.
  8. On the screen, What type of royalty income is (name)? choose the best description.
  9. Continue through the questions.

So I should totally delete the self employed information on schedule C..?

Yes, delete that information, since it doesn't apply to your situation.
