Question

Separate Filing? Personal/Sole Proprietorship

I have Sole Proprietorship of a small business that I run on the side. I just started it in 2022, so this is our first time filing taxes for it. I do the quarterly pay option.

My husband submitted our returns last night, thinking that I would be filing for my small business completely separately. Was that correct? If not, how were we supposed to do it? Should we purchase the Self-Employed TurboTax?

Thanks!

Income and expenses from your sole proprietorship business should be filed on Schedule C in your personal tax return. To report business income and expenses, you'll need TurboTax Self-Employed (Online) or TurboTax Home & Business (CD/Download).

If you have already filed your 2022 tax return and your return has been accepted, then you should amend your 2022 tax return to add the Business income,

Please see this TurboTax article for instructions on how to amend your tax return in TurboTax.
