Question

Smart check ask about schedule A 2023, but I have no schedule A last year

In smart check, it says "State Tax Refund Worksheet: Item B must be entered. ". In Forms, I found it refer to 2023 Schedule A Line 5a. I didn't have a Schedule A last year (did tax filing through a CPA last year). It says if none then enter zero. But the description of it just refer to State and Local Tax. I can probably find or calculate this number from the state tax form last year. Should I enter zero or try to find out the actual number?

If you did not itemized deductions on your 2023 tax return, then you can safely enter zero for the amount being asked by the smart check.
