OK,

Used to be you could contact Turbo Tax when TT software wasn't working as it should. Now I can't reach anyone. I'd be happy to leave a question. I tried calling but the robot was misguided and wanted to text me something I didn't want or need.

I'm doing the Non Resident Arizona return. On form 140NR, I'm asked to fill out the portion of state refunds from my Federal return that is Arizona. On my federal return, it shows $2300 worth of state refunds between 3 states, $19 of which is Arizona. TT is prefilled the federal column of the form showing $0 for state returns and TT says the Arizona portion must be less than the federal state refund total. Well, $19 is correct for AZ but $0 is incorrect for the federal return. Can't overwrite it, can't double click to see where that info comes from. I went and double checked the federal return and it shows the $2300 in state refunds. Wish there was someone at TT I could ask how to fix this. Once again, frustrated by TT and lack of help.

Did you itemize your federal return last year or did you take the standard deduction?   Where do you see the $2300 on the federal return?   TurboTax will list all of the income you entered on the summary screen, but that doesn't mean the $2300 is taxable or was transferred to your federal Form 1040.   If any portion of the 3 state refunds was taxable for federal, that amount would show up on LIne 1 of Schedule 1.   You can preview your federal Form 1040 which includes Schedules 1 - 3.    Look on Line 1 of Schedule 1 to see what amount of the $2300 was taxable.   If you took the standard deduction, the amount should be $0 - in which case the Arizona amount would be $0 as well.

    Is my state refund taxable?

When contacting TurboTax, use the instructions for the CD/desktop/download version from this contact link.   Or you can reply to this thread if you are still having issues.

No, did not itemize last year and I know state refunds are not taxable. Had TT asked about taxable refunds, I would've put none. Instead, they do ask about state refunds in the federal interview and tell me they are not taxable, which we've known since tax law changed under Trump. So, why not use that key term when asking about the AZ refund on the AZ return? I will follow your advice and put zero for the AZ refund but hope as an employee you can pass along my confusion. Trust I'm not the only one who fell for that. Thanks for your answer and help.
