Question

TurboTax is flagging Schedule C - Car & Truck expense worksheet as having an error because the business miles for 2023 is zero. How can I avoid this?

The car was used for some business use in 2021, but not in 2022 - although it could have. All milage for 2022 was personal use. How can I avoid this being flagged as an error?

You should set the business use percentage to zero.  You can also say that you disposed of the vehicle but because of the depreciation deduction that you took last year there could be income from that.  If you think the car might be used for business next year and you want to keep it on the return tell the system that you drove it 0.1 miles for business.  That isn't enough to generate a deduction but it will stop the error and keep the car on the return for next year.

Thanks!

The business percentage was set to Zero; but, TT did not like having zero in the milage.  I used the workaround you mentioned, of setting one of the milage figures to .1, and that got rid of the warning.

Appreciate the quick response!
