I assume that you refer to Schedule S - Supplemental Schedule to a Kansas state return.

This schedule is used to report items of income that are not taxed or included on your Federal return but are taxable to Kansas.

If you are from another state, please comment.

So does this mean you just can’t file until a certain date? Or is there missing information I still need to enter?

Most likely you need to wait until the form is available. As of now, the form is expected to be ready on 2/3/22.

This form makes adjustments to your federal income, including adding things like:

  • State and municipal bond interest not specifically exempt from Kansas income tax
  • Contributions to all KPERS
  • Kansas expensing recapture
  • Low income student scholarship contributions

And subtracting:

  • Social Security benefits
  • KPERS lump sum distributions exempt from Kansas income tax
  • Interest on U.S. Government obligations
  • State or local income tax refund
  • Retirement benefits specifically exempt from Kansas income tax
  • Military compensation of a nonresident servicemember
  • Contributions to Learning Quest or other states’ qualified tuition program
  • Armed forces recruitment, sign-up, or retention bonus
  • Contributions to an ABLE savings account

If you have any of these items on your tax return, you need to wait until the form is available, or your Kansas return will not be accurate.
