How to find out what debt refers to

Hi.

I just signed up for this app, and need to find out how to tell what the debts that are listed are referring to.

There is no info that I can see, except a random collector name and an amount. I think I may need to dispute quite a few,  although I cannot be certain as I do not know if what they are referencing is accurate or not.

Please help. Thank you

Start by obtaining your full credit report from the bureaus.  By law, you can get one free copy per year from each bureau at this web site.  https://www.annualcreditreport.com/index.action

You can also get credit reports from the bureaus directly, but you may have to pay for a subscription (or you may get a free report but they will try and upsell you on other services.)

Once you have more information on the lender, contact them directly and see what they say.  If it is not your debt, you can file an appeal with the creditor and with the credit bureaus.  You also have the right to put a statement in your credit file stating that you dispute the charge.
