Only one dependent tax credit counted.

Hi,

I got only 500 tax credit for dependents. However, I have two daughters who are 12 and 14 years old.

Thus, it has to be 1000 dollars instead of 500.

What is wrong with TurboTax ?

Go back and check all of your entries for your dependents. A child age 6 thru age 17 is eligible for a $3,000 child tax credit in 2021. Especially check their dates of birth, how long they lived in your home (Whole Year) and that they did NOT provide over one-half of their own support.

What you have reported is having a dependent who is age 18 or older who would only be eligible for the Other Dependent credit of $500.

As my research, it is due to that my children do not have SSN. They have only ITIN. BTW, why the credit for other dependents is only 500$ though I have two kids. I think it has to be 1000$.

Children with ITINs don't qualify, but may instead be eligible for the $500 Credit for Other Dependents
