Question

1098-T

I received a 1098-T for 2024 to pay for classes in 2023.  I did not attend any classes in 2024, and the system said I did not qualify for educational credits.  I was claimed as a depended in 2023, so my parents only used the dollar amount on the 2023 1098-t from 2023.  Why would these payments not count for qualify expenses in 2024 or be allowed to be used to adjust the 2023 taxes?

Qualified Education Expenses - Internal Revenue Service states: You must pay the expenses for an academic period* that starts during the tax year or the first three months of the next tax year.

Your form does not match classes that started during that tax year.
