Question

A giant amount of supposed withholding appears in my deductions section and I can't remove it. What to do?

I don't know where the $700,000+ figure came from and I can't delete it from the program.

The documents you need to look at that have income tax withheld are:

  • Payroll W-2's,
  • Pension 1099-R's
  • Government 1099-G,
  • Interest 1099-INT,
  • Dividends 1099-DIV,
  • Misc. Income 1099-Misc, and
  • Stock Sales 1099-B.

The large withholding could have been caused if you uploaded documents to you return. If you did, you need to look at these items first.

If you are unable to find the large withholding you can either clear your return and start over or you can go to What is TurboTax Live? - Community and a live agent can look at your return with a Online Review and help you find the incorrect amount.

To Clear all the information on your return and start over you would:

  1. Select Tax Tools in the Black bar on the left side of the screen.
  2. Select Tools from the drop down menu
  3. Select Clear & Start Over from the Tools Menu.
