Question

Although I didn't have an HSA account in 2019, system always leads me to fill out the 8889 form2019. Additionally this form indicates my contribution as $5524 in section.

Generally, an HSA contribution is reported in Box 12 of a Form W-2, with the code W (Company Contributions to Health Savings Account).

If this is what’s shown on your W-2, TurboTax is auto-filling the amount into Form 8889.

If you’re certain that you don’t have an HSA plan, pull up all of your W-2s in TurboTax and make sure that there are no errant entries in Box 12.  If there are, correct them.

If Box 12 does have a Code W and an amount, you should contact your employer or their payroll agent and request that they issue a Form W-2c amending your W-2.
