Are donations of new bags of pet food to local charity deductible?

It was not a monetary donation, but it was not "used" so can't find correct category.

    Yes, donations of new bags of pet food to a local charity would be an allowable charitable deduction.  The amount of the deduction would be the amount you paid for it as a cash donation.  

    • Treat it like you would any cash donation.  

    Example: If you bought a bag of groceries for Thanksgiving as example, and donated it to a charitable organization campaign.
