Question

Are moving expenses for work part of an itemized deduction or deducted separate? If I don't have any receipts from the move can I still proceed with this deduction?

The moving expense deduction is not part of the itemized deduction, and is reported on Form 1040 line 26 which reduces your adjusted gross income. With a lower adjusted gross income, you pay less tax.

I don't suggest taking the moving expense deduction if you don't have any receipts from the move since IRS may ask you to prove your moving expenses. I suggest trying to obtain receipts related to your move. Did you rent a truck or use a moving company? You can contact them and ask for a receipt. If you used your credit card to pay for moving expenses, you can review your credit card statement to find moving expenses.
