Schedule D-1 is used to report the sale or exchange of business property when the California basis of the asset(s) is different from the federal basis due to differences between California and federal law.

You need to complete and attach this form to your tax return only if your California gains or losses from the sale or exchange of assets used in a trade or business are different from your federal gains or losses.

If that does not apply to you, revisit the Income section to correct any error:

  1. search for Sale of Business Property in the search box, then click the Jump to link.
  2. On the screen Any Other Property Sales? Make sure to check none of the above.

The Sale of a business property could also be under Rental property.

If the form does not apply to you , you can try to delete the form:

  1. Select Tax Tools on the bottom left and then Tools.
  2. Select Delete a Form.
  3. Find the form and select delete next to it.

You might not be able to delete the form if an entry on your return is triggering Schedule D-1( Capital Gain /Loss from selling stocks)
