Can I change the mortgage interest paid/points limited when it is defaulted yes and I need to be no when I only have $1299.00

I don’t quite understand your question. I’m assuming you are saying that you don’t want to report your mortgage interest because it’s only $1,299.

 

You should report your mortgage interest. If the amount is too small to make a difference, TurboTax will use the standard deduction and mortgage interest will not be reported on your tax form.

 

Keep in mind, IRS gets a copy of your Form 1098 so they know about your mortgage interest.

 

If you still want to change your answer:

 

  1. Type 1098 in Search (magnifying glass) in the top right corner
  2. Select Jump to 1098
  3. On the screen “Did you pay any home loans in 2022?” tap NO.
  4. If you’ve already entered your 1098 info, delete your lender in “Here’s your 1098 info.”
