Question

Can I claim a prior year's personal property tax if we paid them this year (i.e. paid taxes on 2018 - 2020 in the year 2020)?

*we never paid 2018 & 2019 personal property tax, so this year we paid 2018 - 2020.  How much can we claim?

Personal property taxes are claimed in the year in which they are paid, not the year for which they are paid.  So, if the taxes were paid in 2020, then you can claim the full amount that was paid in 2020.

Since you are deducting prior year's personal property taxes, be sure that you do not include any late fees or penalties that were assessed.  Those amounts are not deductible.
