I have a dependent living in my primary residence. I traveled oversea and couldn't get back since the pandemic travel restrictions. However, I keep supporting him the whole year, and we still have good communication.

Yes as long as you meet the qualifications for a qualifying child or qualifying relative. The main question i would ask though is if you paid for more than 1/2 of their living expenses and if they worked making more than $4300 in 2020.

Please read these requirements carefully in this publication regarding the requirements for the Qualifying Child Test or Qualifying Relative. i would list this here but the requirements are very detailed and lengthy. You can click on the links provided below to go right to section where these are mentioned.

    Qualifying Child, Qualifying Child

    Relative, Qualifying Relative

Note: It does mention that temporary absences away from home due to unforeseen circumstances still qualify you to claim your child.  COVID 19 is certainly an unforeseen circumstance.
