Can I claim my car payments that I use to drive for Uber, and if so, where do I enter it?

Yes.  You can deduct the actual expenses of operating the vehicle, including gasoline, oil, insurance, car registration, repairs, maintenance, and depreciation or lease payments. Or you can use the standard IRS mileage deduction.

Your car is considered a business asset when you work as a rideshare driver, which means a portion of any costs associated with it are tax-deductible. This includes your car paymentauto insurance, and licensing, title, and registration fees.

If you're already signed in to your TurboTax account and working on your return:

  1. Search for self-employment income and select the Jump to link to go to the Self-employment income section.
  2. When asked the type of self-employment work you do, type Uber or driving.
  3. Answer a few questions about your driving work.
