I’ve been staying at home taking care of my child and want to know if I could claim her next year without receiving a w-2 for not working

To be eligible for the child tax credit you must have at least $2,500 of income from work.

If you have not received any type of taxable income in 2024 there is no reason to file a 2024 tax return.

Unless you had healthcare insurance through one of the state Marketplace Exchanges or from healthcare.gov and will receive a Form 1095-A, then you must file a federal tax return.

If you have no income from working you will be not  eligible for any child-related credits like child tax credit or earned income credit.  Those refundable credits are based on having income from working.   How have you been supporting yourself and your child?   Is there someone else who has been supporting the two you and who could claim you as dependents?
