Question

Can I claim my vehicle expense for driving to work? Looks like it is more than 2% rule.

If you are an employee, you must itemize your deductions (have mortgage interest, real estate tax, charitable donations, state income tax etc.) and the expenses must be over the 2% threshold to even impact your tax return.

Also, only "work" related driving qualifies.  For example, driving to and from work does not qualify, as it is commuting. However, driving from your job location to a meeting, or another job location or just a 2nd job would qualify as vehicle expenses. Please refer to the attached picture; it shows details.
