Question

Can I claim property taxes this year if they were submitted in 2022 but processed in 2023?

My bank sent my escrowed property tax payment to the county treasury office on 12-26-22. Tax records online show the payment was not processed until 01-10-23. Can I still claim my property taxes for 2022 (since payment was sent in 2022) or do I have to wait and claim them in 2023?

I suggest that you claim the amount on the Mortgage statement as paid for Tax year 2022.  Most likely it will include that payment.   For the payor, the date the payment was sent is  considered the date paid.  However, if you claim that amount and the mortgage company does not then for 2023, you will have to deduct that amount from the 2023 payments.  Which ever way you choose, you will need to be consistent so as to not claim more than is paid or credited in any one year.
