No. Repairs to your personal residence are not deductible unless it is used for business purposes.

No.  Repairs or improvements to your own home are not deductible on a federal tax return.  There are certain energy saver credits, but a water softener is not one of them.

Repairs are never deductible on a tax return in regards to your personal residence, not used as a rental or in a business.  The cost of improvements to a personal residence are added to the Basis of the home when it is sold.
