Can I claim two EV Tax Credits in 2022 if I purchased two separate vehicles that both qualified for the $7,500 EV tax credit (in service prior to August 16)?

My spouse and I file jointly with AGI <$300K. We purchased an EV in 2022 and submitted for an EV tax credit when filing. We also have a binding agreement for a 2nd EV, and can now purchase the EV with an in-service date of August 15, 2022. If I proceed with purchase, can I amend my 2022 taxes and claim two separate EV credits (for a total of $15K) on my 2022 taxes?

Yes,

the credit is per vehicle.

The credits are non-refundable, so only applied to your tax liability for that tax year.

According to the IRS:

“Maximum per vehicle credit amount.

The credit amount is limited to $7,500 ($40,000 for a vehicle with a GVWR of 14,000 pounds or more).”
