Can I deduct dental insurance premiums for PSO paid by employer, even though not shown on 1099-R, Box 5?

    The distribution must be from a plan maintained by the employer from which the taxpayer retired as a public safety officer. 

    Also, the distribution must be made directly from the plan to the provider of the accident or health plan or long-term care insurance contract.

    I meet all the qualifications for a maximum deduction of $3000 yet it does not appear in the total on line 5 - Where should I add it and will this conflict with the amount shown on the 1099R// Thanks

    If you meet the qualifications when you answer the questions in TurboTax you will receive the deduction.  The amount for Box 5 are Employee Contributions and has nothing to do with the $3,000 deduction for Insurance being paid for by the plan administrator.
