Can I deduct my firearms purchase if I work as a Probation Officer?

As with any job if equipment necessary for the job is not provided by the employer such expenses would be tax deductible, for instance, special uniforms or safety shoes or headgear. If a firearm is necessary, something you must have for your job, by order of your employer, then you can deduct the cost. If the firearm is not necessary to obtain or keep employment, it is not deductible.
