You can take a deduction for health insurance premiums if:

  • You itemize deductions (as opposed to taking the Standard Deduction)
  • Your medical expenses exceed 7.5% of your Adjusted Gross Income (AGI)

If you itemize and your medical expenses exceed 7.5% of AGI, you can take a deduction for the portion of medical expenses that exceed 7.5% of your AGI.
