Can I deduct my travel expenses after my per diem becomes taxable when I am on a long term out of town assignment?

My assignment was supposed to last 9 months, but was extended.  After one year, my per diem started to be taxed.  When the per diem became taxable income, I am wondering if my travel expenses can be deducted.

Sorry but employee business expenses are no longer deductible on the federal tax return.

Job-related expenses for W-2 employees are not deductible on a federal return since the tax laws changed for 2018 and beyond.
