Can I deduct personal property taxes paid on a car I am financing?

Yes, if they are based on the car's value - not its age, size, or some other factor.  You must itemize your deductions to claim it.  To enter your deduction in TurboTax, take the following steps:

  • In your open Federal return, choose Deductions & Credits
  • Scroll down to Cars and Other Things You Own and Show more
  • Start or revisit Personal Property Taxes and say Yes
