As long as the expense is for the diagnosis, cure, mitigation, treatment or prevention of disease the thermography scan would be an allowable medical expense deduction on your federal tax return. However, you need to keep in mind that medical expenses are only deductible as itemized deductions and are only allowed in an amount greater than 7.5% of your adjusted gross income. Also, you need to benefit from itemizing your deductions for it to benefit you. The base standard deduction in 2024 is $14,600 for a single individual and $29,200 if filing married-joint. Your itemized deductions would have to be more than your standard deduction to be of benefit to you.
