Can I deduct unclaimed prior year donations?

In general, no, you can only claim donations made during the current tax year. 

 

The exception to this is if you made more charitable contributions during a previous year than you were allowed to claim due to income limitations, then you can carryover the unused donations.  Those carryover amounts must have been claimed and then disallowed in the prior year to be carried over.  If they were not claimed in the year the donations were made, an amended return must be filed to claim the donation.
