Can I file a deduction for buying/registering a new car in the state of TN in 2020?

Yes,  Sales tax and registration fee on your new car can be included toward your itemized deductions, but I want to be sure it is worth your while. 

 

If you are single you will get $12,400, $24,800 if married, as a Standard deduction. 

 

You would have to exceed that amount in Mortgage interest, Property Taxes, State Taxes (non in TN) Medical expenses and Charitable giving to make it worthwhile to make the change.
