Can I file and extension and still apply for no capital gains on a house I sold. I am out of the country and don't have all the information I need to file on time.

Under certain circumstances, you may be able to get an extension by filing IRS Form 2350: Application for Extension of Time to File U.S. Income Tax Return. In this case, you would need to mail in your return rather than e-filing.

Note that any tax due must be paid by the regular due date of your return, or you will incur interest and possible penalties.
