Can I get a energy tax credit for installing a metal roof on my primary home in 2023? If so, where do I enter this information in Turbotax?

No, there is not an energy credit available for 2023 related to installing a metal roof on your primary residence.

That has been an option for an energy credit in the past, but not for 2023 installations.

That is complicated.  Roofs were specifically removed from the credit by the Inflation Reduction Act.  However, there is still a provision for "any system designed primarily to reduce heat gain or loss to the home."  (This usually means insulation, house wrap, air sealing, and so on.)  Also, the "system" must meet the standards  "established by the most recent International Energy Conservation Code standard in effect as of the beginning of the calendar year which is 2 years prior to the calendar year in which such component is placed in service."

In other words, you might be able to claim a roof, if the IECC rates roofs, and if your roof meets or exceeds the IECC standard for 2021, and if you are prepared to claim that the roof is designed "primarily to reduce heat gain or loss to the home."  In that case, you would enter it under the category of "insulation."
