Question

Can the child tax credit be split between the parent of the child and the grandparent who cared for them half the year?

Will the IRS pay the parent $1,800 and the grandparent $1,800 since they split the care of the child at 6 months each, instead of the total $3,600 to just one care giver?

No,

Only one Taxpayer can claim a child as their dependent and only that Taxpayer can apply to claim the Child Tax Credit.
