Can Training expenses incurred due to being layed off due Covid-19 be deducted?

I was laid off due to Covid during 2020.  In order to gain additional skills to re-enter job market, I took and paid for multiple training classes.  I am not self-employed.  Are the costs of those training classes deductable?

thanks

No.  Training to add skills for a new line of work are not tax deductible.  Here is the IRS Tax Topic on Work related education expenses.

If you were at least a half-time student at a college and received a form 1098 you may be eligible for education credits.  Here is a link with more information on education credits.
