can we claim a roof replacement on our home if it was leaking and insurance only wanted to repair roof ?

insurance co. paid 3000.00 for repair but some plywood needed replaced also . we had the roof replaced out of our pocket.

    No.   Repairs and improvements to your own home are not deductible on your federal tax return.  Save your records for someday when you sell the house.

    The cost of the roof replacement is not reported on your tax return if this was for a personal residence, not used as a rental or in a business.  The cost of the improvement to the home can be added to the basis of the home when it is sold.
