Question

Can you still take a partial Section 179 deduction in 2020? I built a machine shed for farm and when I enter this new asset I do not get the option anymore?

I get the option to take a full deduction or spread it out over 20 years.

Permanent structures are not eligible for the Section 179 deduction. If your shed is not permanent, then you can claim a Section 179 deduction.

If it cost you less than $2,500 to build the shed, you can write if off an expenses (you get the same result as claiming the Section deduction).

Otherwise follow TurboTax Expert @DaveF1006’s advice and enter it as seven-year property. This will qualify for Section 179: Storage Buildings and listing them as an asset.
