Canadian citizen working remotely for US company as W2 employee : filing US taxes required?

Dear people,

I am unsure about my situation. I am a Canadian citizen and I work remotely for an US based company. I get a weekly salary and receive a W2 at the end of the year.

On my salary, US income taxes are withheld. I offset them through the Canadian Foreign Tax Credit on my Canadian tax return.

My question is, do I have to file an US income tax return as well? I read that I might have to file the US 1040NR Form.

Can I please get some thoughts about my situation?

Thanks a lot,

Mancora

Yes. US income is to be reported. Filing your US return for a tax liability to claim credit on your Canada return.  TurboTax does not support any nonresident tax forms, you are advised to contact Sprintax to file your taxes.

You may a refund or a balance due. You can change your w4 at work to withhold more or less.
