Car I own, driven by my daughter was involved in a car accident. She inadvertently let her insur. lapse. I had to pay over $6K to have it repaired. Is this deductible

Repairs to a personal vehicle are not deductible.

If the car was used for business, then the business use percentage of the repairs would be deductible if you were using the "actual expenses method" for the vehicle (rather than the standard mileage rate).

This could be claimed as a casualty loss. However, only the amount in excess of 10% of your AGI less $100 can be deducted. That amount, if any, would be added to your itemized deductions. You would get a tax break if your itemized deductions are more than the standard deduction.

Yes, I stand corrected.  Provided the vehicle accident was not due to willful negligence or a willful act, then it could be claimed as a casualty loss.
