Hello,

I have been dropping my kids off for a home sitter during the work day.  I don't have receipts and have just been paying in cash.  Would I be able to claim what I have paid for this kind of credit?

In order to claim the childcare credit you need to enter the Social Security number or Tax ID of the person you paid to watch your children while you worked.  You will need to get that information from the babysitter.

When you have that, you can enter the amount you paid and the sitter's tax information in Federal>Deductions and Credits>You and Your Family>Child and Dependent Care Credit.

The sitter is responsible for reporting their own income on a tax return.   The IRS will expect the sitter's reported income to match the amount you enter on your return.
