Hello!

I have a question on the child tax credit. I claimed all 4 of my children on 2020 taxes. However I share custody with my oldest. His dad will be claiming him for 2021. I received the tax credit for him. How is this going to affect me next yr when I file 2021 taxes and he is not my dependent.

Hello NancyMJ, if you are receiving the Advanced Child Tax Credit for a child that you will not be claiming for your 2021 tax return, the amount that you are receiving for that child will reduce your refund or may need to be paid back.  You can stop receiving the Advanced Child Tax Credit by going on to the IRS website and managing your payments:
