Child tax credit

I tried to file my taxes early since I am a single stay at home mom. I didn’t receive child tax credit advance payments since I had my baby in 2021 and I missed the deadline to update my information in the irs portal. When I tried to file my taxes just now the only question pertaining to the child tax credit is if I received payments or not. Of course I clicked no since I haven’t but it is saying I’m not eligible when my daughter is my dependent. So my question is how do I receive the child tax credit for my baby when I didn’t receive advance payments?

If the baby was born in 2021, answer "the whole year" when asked how long she lived with you.

Do not try to file early. Mistakes will be made. The forms and software are not fully ready yet.  The IRS will not be accepting returns until late January (exact date not published yet).

Make sure you have entered your child as a dependent in My Info, and that you have entered the child's Social Security number. If your child was born in 2021make sure you said he lived with you the whole year.  There is an oddly worded question that asks if the child paid over half their own support.  Say NO to that question.
