Child Tax Credit error?

So, I entered in the information for my two kids that I claim - a 21 year old in university and a 17 year in high school that I support 100%. On the Deductions page, I see the $2500 amount that I expect and think all is well. Then I move on to the summary page of 2020 and 2021 deductions and credits and on this page, the Child and Other Dependent Tax Credit shows $0. Why is this? I am a bit stumped.

Because some people received Advance Child Tax credit, the credit is in a different place on the return as compared to last year. This makes the summary look off.

The amount is reported on  lines 19 and 28 or Form 1040/ 1040SR. Most people have an amount on both lines. The total credit is the amount added together.

You can check to see that the credit is on your tax return, where it counts.

If you are suing TurboTax online:

    1. On the left side menu, select  Tax Tools near the bottom.
    2. Select Tools.
    3. Select View Tax Summary from the list at the bottom of this box.
    4. Select Preview my 1040 from the center of the left side menu.
    5. Scroll down to boxes 19 and 28.

If you are using TurboTax Desktop (download or disc):

    1. Click Forms toward the upper right corner.
    2. Find Form 1040 on the list on the left.
    3. Highlight it, then scroll down to boxes 19 and 28.
    4. Click on Step by Step in the upper right corner to return to the interview.

I figured this out! This is a problem probably specific to me because my laptop randomly likes to hard reboot. (Yes, I am going to order a new one as soon as these taxes are filed, assuming I can afford one.) I try to save often, but it still manages to trip me up on occasion. This was one of those occasions:

I had gone through the "You and Your Family" section and was on "Charitable Donations" when my laptop did its thing. Unfortunately, I though I had saved after finishing the "You and Your Family" section, but I hadn't. And I didn't redo it when my laptop came back to life - I continued on with the "Charitable Donations". As a result, while TT showed a $2500 Child and Other Dependent Tax Credit, it wasn't verified (the button was a blue "Start", not a grey "Update") and so it didn't show up later in the summary. Once I went through that section again, my credit became real and life is good.

I wish TT had been kind enough to point this out during its review.
