Hello ndav

Unfortunately you cannot claim the Child Tax Credit, since this credit is specifically for dependents that is classified as a qualifying child. However, depending on specific circumstances surrounding your parent living with you, you could be eligible for Credit for Other Dependents

Here is criteria for Child Tax Credit

  • child must be under 17 years of age at end of the tax year
  • must be a child, step-child, foster child, adopted child, sibling, step-sibling, half-sibling, or descendant of any of these
  • child must have a SSN
  • child must live with you >50% of the time
  • child did not provide >50% of their support
  • child is US citizen, resident alien, or US national
