Child Tax Credit for previous year

I have an agreement with my ex wife that we take turns claiming the children we had together.  My question is that for expenses paid on years that I was not able to claim the children in the years that I am able to claim them is it possible to then claim the expenses from the previous year(s)?

No, that is not possible. Expenses can be claimed only in the year that they were paid.
