Good afternoon,

Question on filing my taxes, my mother lives with me and she receives SSI. If I claim her, will this affect her SSI income and other benefits like food stamps?

Thank you

Claiming your mother will not affect her Social Security if that is what she receives.   We cannot say what your state's regulations are for food stamps.   And doe she receive Social Security or SSI?  Those are not the same thing, although many people think they are.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS AND SSI?

If you claim your mom you get the $500 credit for other dependents and this year you may be eligible to get the $1400 stimulus check if you claim an adult dependent.   (if claimed as a dependent your mom will not receive the $1400 herself).
