Commercial truck driver meal expenses?

The standard meal expense for truck driverstop need empirical proof or can I use my bank statements?

To claim your meal expenses, you have two options:

  1. The actual amount paid (your bank statements should suffice)
  2. Use the per diem rate (more information below)

The per diem rates will be different for different locations (even for different cities within the same state).

You can look up the per diem rate by city/state or zip code here:  https://www.gsa.gov/portal/content/104877.  Do make sure that you change the Fiscal Year to 2016 for rates to prepare your 2016 returns.
