My husband is in the military and bought his new vehicle in South Carolina but, Texas is his home of record and state we file taxes in.  Can we still deduct the tax we paid on that vehicle?  If so, can you explain how I should do that.

If you itemize deductions then you can claim the sales taxes paid not only from the table for your state, but also for any major purchases.

    1. In the "Deductions & Credits" tab
    2. Scroll down to "Estimates and other taxes paid" and
    3.  "Show More"
    4. Select the "Sales Tax" topic
    5. Use the "Easy Guide"
    6. You will enter the state where you actually lived (SC) and the sales tax information for that state/locale
    7. You will then be asked about major purchases while in that state.
    8. You can enter the purchase information there.
