Why does it not allow me to claim my daughter as a dependent. She is a full time college student. She gets VA education assistance but I still pay for over half her support. She does work PT and has earned 18k last year and she is claiming on her tax that she can be claimed as a dependent on another person’s tax. But after I filed my taxes I noticed that I did not get the $500 credit for her. She started college 2023 last year in August.

Since she is over the age of 16 the child tax credit no longer applies.  She is only eligible for the Other Dependent credit which is $500.

Go back and review your answers for the dependent.  You should have indicated that she lived in your home for the Whole Year since she is only temporarily away from the home for education.  Also, make sure that you indicated the she did NOT provide over one-half of her own support.
